Not sure if I totally understand but the first team that popped into mind was the 1914 Boston Braves.

On July 4, their record was 26-40. They played the rest of the season at 68-19 and won the National League pennant and defeated the Philadelphia Athletics, 4 games to 0, to win the World Series.
