On November 11, 1990, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas set the NFL record for the most sacks in one game. Thomas sacked Seattle Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg seven times.

Here is the NFL's records page on sacks: http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/sacks Though it's worth mentioning that Deacon Jones is reported to have 173.5 sacks unofficially which would put him third on that list. Jones played in 14 games seasons and before the sack was an official statistic. Of course, Jones also played before offensive linemen were allowed to use their hands like they are today.
