Australia has never hosted the Winter Olympics. It's difficult to host the Winter Olympics in the Southern Hemisphere because it is summer when the games are traditionally played (February)
the USA has hosted the winter Olympics 8 times
3 times: 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano
78 medals(not including this winter olympics) =)
Twice. The 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1976 Winter Olympics were both held in Innsbruck.

Because of the axial tilt of the earth the northern and southern hemisphere have opposite seasons
Seasons in the northern hemisphere occur at opposite times to those in the southern hemisphere. For example, when it is winter in the southern hemisphere, it is summer in the northern hemisphere.

because it does
why when it is summer in the northern hemisphere it is winter in the southern hemisphere
As everyone knows the Earth tilts on it's axis at the angle of 66 and half degrees. On 21st December the Earth tilts on it's axis so that the sun would hit the southern hemisphere and then the southern hemisphere would have winter while the northern hemisphere would have winter. So when the sun's rays hit the northern hemisphere then the northern hemisphere would have summer while the southern hemisphere would have winter.
Because the tilt means that the respective hemisphere is lit by the Sun more vertically at some times and these times will therefore be summer, and when the Earth tilts away from the Sun we have winter in that hemisphere. So summer in the northern hemisphere is winter in the southern.
Because the tilt means that the respective hemisphere is lit by the Sun more vertically at some times and these times will therefore be summer, and when the Earth tilts away from the Sun we have winter in that hemisphere. So summer in the northern hemisphere is winter in the southern.
That is correct. Since the US is in the northern hemisphere of the Earth, and Australia is in the southern hemisphere, they experience seasons at opposite times of the year.
the USA has hosted the winter Olympics 8 times
Because the Earth tilts at 23.5°, meaning that sometimes the northern hemisphere is leaning towards the sun, giving it summer, while the southern hemisphere is leaning away from it, giving it winter. At other times the southern hemisphere is leaning towards the sun, giving it summer, while the northern hemisphere is leaning away from it, giving it winter.
