The Canadian men's national soccer team have qualified for the FIFA World Cup only once, in Mexico in 1986.

Between 1930 and 1954 they did not enter the qualification phase of the competition.

They failed to qualify in 1958, their first attempt at qualification in the competition, where they finished second in the CCCF/NAFC league to Mexico, who won all four of their games in qualification in order to proceed to the tournament proper.

They withdrew from the 1962 qualification proceedings, from which Mexico qualified. Once again they did not enter the 1966 qualification phase.

They entered, but failed to qualify from, each of the four competitions from 1970 to 1982.

They finally qualified for the 1986 tournament, though they exited in the group stage, when, in a group containing the Soviet Union, France, and Hungary, they finished bottom of the group having failed to win a single game or score a single goal.

They have failed to qualify in each of the five competitions since 1990, including the 2010 World Cup, in which, up against Honduras, Jamaica, and Mexico, they finished bottom of the qualification group with two draws and four losses from six games.
