Michael Phelps is, without a doubt, the greatest athlete of all time. He competed in eight events for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Not only did he get a medal in all 8 events, but he got first in each event, coming home with 8 gold medals! No one can top that.

That title of greatest athlete ever is rightfully owned be Jim Thorpe. The most versitile athlete in the world, playing football, Olympics Track and Field, and Baseball. He is sometimes refered to as the greatest College Football player for playing running back, defensive back, placekick, and putter. That mean's he was on the field the whoe time. He then won two Olympic gold medals in the decathlon and penthlon. He also played baseball outfielder, which he was a decent player. Many have tried just doing two sports; Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, but all have no been a successful as Jim thorpe.
