Really any .68 low-mid grade paintballs will work. Buying really cheap paint like inertia and monster will not be accurate, but is very affordable. Mid grade paint ($40+ per case) is the optimum paintballs for any Tippmanns. Any high grade paint (brittle and expensive) will most likely break inside low grade mechanical markers.
The only interchangeable parts are the screws, front bolt, ball detent, asa, O rings, guide rail and some pins. Note that the barrel, trigger mechanism and most other internals will not swap correctly.
They are ok, over the years there has been many markers released that will give better performance for the same price or give the same performance at a lower cost. Tippmann, for the most part, has not changed the design since its release about 20 years ago. The sad part is in 2004 when Ben Tippmann left the company the board made a few changes to make the marker cheaper to produce (however this was never seen in a price drop) such as plastic instead of metal power tubes and changing the makeup of the metals so they were easier to make but did not last as long. Overall they are still decent markers for beginners but there are a lot of others out there that will give you more for your money.
The closest thing to a Tpx is the T8, but instead of CO2 Under the barrel, the T8 has CO2 in the clips, which some people like better/worse.
The BT4 is almost identical to the Tippmann 98.
Yes. Just remove all the internals before painting, to make sure you do not get any inside.
About 120 to buy. Its worth about 100, but you could only sell it at 80 or 90.

There is a wide variety of starter guns. The Tippmann 98 Custom is probably the most durable, but if your are looking for a faster, more speedball type gun, I would highly recommend the piranha EVO. It's running at about $200 or less.
There are many places online in which you can purchase a Tippmann paintball gun. You can go to websites like eBay or Amazon where you should be able to find one.
