It is not just wider but also slightly longer than our regular boards we would use in regular, wet, or east coast conditions. There are a few reasons to upsize your board in powder but they stem from the same main reason, which is weight distribution. The wider and longer the board the more the riders weight is spread out. In powder upsizing your board helps you stay on the top layer of snow which increases speed and control. Careful though if you get a board to large for your body weight you will not be able to control it.

snowboarders use wide boards to ride over soft powdery snow for them to catch up their weight at the same time, they could balance better.
