The Dallas Texans were owned by Lamar Hunt. When Dallas could not support two teams, Hunt moved to Kansas City and the Chiefs were born.
Hunt family owns the Chiefs. The late Lamar Hunt founded them as the Dallas Texans in 1960.
Their old name was the Dallas Texans. But when they moved to Kansas City, their name was after the Mayor of Kansas City, who's nickname was "chief". Hope that helps
