Because if it were to be on the left side the wing on the front crest would either cover it or put the C in a awkward position on the jersey. They changed it when the jersey changed from CCM to Reebok.

I stand to be corrected, but I think it has to do with the redesign of the new uniforms a couple of years ago. Because of the placement of the logos, the C and A had to placed on the "wrong" shoulder.

The logo on the New Jersey comes up to where the 'C' would be on the left side, so they moved to the right side.

Detroit did this last year because they had an extra patch on the left side already so they put it on right. I guess they stuck with it this year.

Really why does the Detroit Red Wings captain wear the 'C' on his right breast?

I stand to be corrected on this, but I think it has to do with the design of the new jerseys and the placement of the Wing's logo. It leaves little room for the "C's" placement on the traditional left side, so it is worn on the right.

What does the C stand for on an NHL hockey jersey?

If you are looking at the jersey it is on the upper right hand side, if you are wearing the jersey it will be on the upper left hand side. This is true for every NHL team with the exception of the Detroit Red Wings, where the "C" is in the upper left hand side if you are looking at it, and the upper right hand side if you are wearing it.

What does a right wing do in ice hockey?

The right wing is an essential player on any line. They have to shoot, defend and stick up for there team mates like any player. Also, right wings may be called to take faceoffs if the center is waved out. Right wings are also an essential part of cycling the puck in the offensive zone. Therefore, right wings do pretty much everything just like every other player. If its in the offensive zone on the left side then you should be in front of the net with your stick down just in case it come to you. Be Prepared!!! If it on the right side go for it and keep throwing out in front of the net. Also, if its in the defensive zone and on the left side stay on the hash marks for a break out pass from the defense, and if its on the right stay on the top of the left circle (high slot).~emmerz :)
