Because he gets the snap of the ball, can change receiver routes, read the coverage the defense is in, calls the play in the huddle so that the rest can follow, and must have knowledge of every play. He must also have the respect of each player. and the fate of the play is in his hands whether is an accurate pass, keeping it or handing the ball of to the running backs.
