Ireland has a relatively small population The main sports in Ireland are not Olympic sports, so that reduces the amount of people that really get good. Training facilities are not great compared to other countries, so many Irish athletes train in other countries. Sports like boxing and athletics have been areas where Irish people have particularly secured medals.
