∙ 12y agotechnically they are supposed to wear a traditional Kimona and top knot hairstyle and wooden sandles at all press and public outings but many yokozuna category sumo wrestlers choose to wear business suits to go out and have fun because they want to feel like normal public when clubing.

∙ 10y agoWhen Sumo started hundreds and hundreds of years ago, all men dressed like that. Sumo wrestlers keep up the tradition when they wrestle. Japanese are very respectful of tradition. Today, Sumo wrestlers dress like anyone else when they are not competing.

(color does not have any meaning) When entering the ring at the beginning of a Basho, they often wear the kesho-miwashi, a ceremonial apron that is often donated by sponsors. They are required to wear their hair in the style appropriate for their rank, it serves as protection for the head.
