Chicago didn't get enough votes. In Olympic bidding all the potential host cities are voted on. Each member of the Olympic Committee places a vote on a city. Until one city receives over 50% of the votes, the city with the lowest votes is eliminated. The 2016 bidding went as follows:
Chicago had the least votes, so Chicago was eliminated. In the second round Tokyo was eliminated and in the third round Rio de Janerio won the majority vote.
* Chicago, United States - Chicago 2016 Olympic bid-score 7.0 * Madrid, Spain - Madrid 2016 Olympic bid-score 8.1 * Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic bid-score 6.4 * Tokyo, Japan - Tokyo 2016 Olympic bid-score 8.3
There is no hope because the 2016 bid is over.
Winner: Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Chicago, USA. Tokyo, Japan. Madrid, Spain.
Australia bid Melbourne and Brisbane for the 1992 and 1996 Summer Games. Sydney won out and got the bid for the 2000 Summer games.
Rio De Janeiro won the bid over Madrid, Tokyo, and Chicago.
Cities, not countries, (though of course the country will have an input) bid to host the Olympic games, usually 8 - 12 years in advance. The International Olympic Commitee will then consider each bid and decide where the game will be held in a particular year. The commitee awarded the 2016 game to Rio
Brisbane made a bid for becoming the host city for the 1992 Olympic games
As of recent, Chicago and New York City have both bid and were unsuccessful in their attempts to hos thte Olympic games.
The bid to host the Olympic games happened in 2005.
