women's Lacrosse is the truer form of the game. they play with minimal padding (only goggles and a moth guard). there are very specific rules for checking (hitting) the the ball out of another players stick.
men's allowed far more contact and checking. they play with padding from the torso up (ribs, shoulders, helmet, mouth guard, elbows). that is because of the difference in checking.
