The Nassau County, New York Sports Commission is responsible for the administration of the John Mackey Award. It is given annually to the most outstanding Tight End in Division 1-A College Football. In 2000 the first award was presented to Tim Stratton, Purdue. The commission to create the bronze sculpture award was given to Edith Rae Brown, Sculptor, Greenvale, New York and presented to Tim Stratton by John Mackey along with Edith Rae Brown. In 2000, Dr. Gary Wadler was Executive Director of The Nassau County Sports Commission.
Charles White, USC was the 1979 Maxwell Award winner!
There were two people who won the Maxwell award in 1967. One person was Gary Beban and the other was Terry Baker Gary Beban
Randy Moss of Marshall won the award in 1997.
