Ty Cobb. The Ruth/Cobb Golf match was a best two out of three to benefit charity (the war effort) and played in match play format in the summer of 1941. Cobb won the first match played at the Commonwealth Country Club in Massachusetts by 3 and 2. Ruth won the second match played at the Fresh Meadow Country Club in a playoff. The tie breaking match was played at Gross Isle Country Club in Michigan with Cobb winning 3 and 2.
