It was Murphy's only appearance in the Series and he pitched 3 1/3 inning, gave up 5 hits, one run, struck out 2 and had no walks. The 30 year old had lead the American League in saves that season with 19, while appearing in 38 games for the Yankees, all in relief. The losing pitcher, by the way, was Reds ace, Bucky Walters, who came into the game in relief in the 8th inning to suffer his 2nd loss of the Series.
