The 76's were first known as the Syracuse Nationals from, they later became known as the Philadelphia 76ers. The coach of this team was Al Cervi, Paul Seymour and Alex Hannum Played As: Syracuse Nationals* 1946/47-1962/63 Philadelphia 76ers 1963/64-Present *-Played in NBL 1946/47-1948/49 Logo: Syracuse Nationals written in the continental United Sates over in white over horizontal red and white stripes encircled by blue stars Colors: Red, White and Blue Coaches: (3) Al Cervi 1948/49-1956/57 Paul Seymour 1956/57-1959/60 Alex Hannum 1960/61-1962/63 Arenas: (2) State Fair Coliseum 1946/47-1950/51 Onondaga War Memorial 1951/52-1962/63 This answer completely omits the fact that they were known as the Philadelphia Warriors at one time, circa late 50's, early 60's, before becoming the '76ers. Actually, they were the Philadelphia Warriors from 1946-1962, and for the first several years, Ed Gottlieb was their coach. Wilt Chamberlain and Tom Gola, among other Greats, played as the Philadelphia Warriors, not 76ers. The name was sold to San Francisco after 1962, and they eventually became the Golden State Warriors. At no time in Philadelphia was any Basketball team known by the word: "Syracuse," although that's where the team originated from. http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/pwar/phlwarriorsshots.html The above link clarifies the name issue of the team.
