∙ 6y agoVice Admiral Sir Francis Drake, born around 1540, died 27 January 1596, was the first Englishman to sail around the world. His voyage began in December 1577 and he returned in his famous ship, The Golden Hind, in September 1580. He was knighted in 1581 in recognition of his great achievement.
