The Black Panther was the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics. He first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966). African-American characters and heroes appeared in comics before that, but Black Panther was the first with super powers. See link below for essay on this topic.

The only African-American head coaches to lose in Super Bowl competition were Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears (Super Bowl XLI), Jim Caldwell of the Indianapolis Colts (Super Bowl XLIV) and Mike Tomlin (Super Bowl XLV). Smith's Bears lost to the Colts team coached by Tony Dungy, the first African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl. Tomlin's first Super Bowl appearance as a head coach was a victorious one. His Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals, 27-23.
