The first "world championship game"... that we today in hindsight would call Super Bowl I ... was won by the Packers, who beat the Chiefs for the title.
The first championship game that was actually officially called the "Super Bowl" was played 3 years later, and that one was won by the Chiefs (particularly fitting, since the team's owner was one of the people who had suggested the name "Super Bowl" in the first place) who beat the Vikings.
The Steelers lost Super Bowl XXX to the Cowboys.
The Ravens, the Chiefs, and the Jets.
no the super bowl must be an AFC team against an NFC team
For Super Bowl XLVIII the AFC is considered the home team. For the tv broadcasts, the away team plays Saturday and the home team plays Sunday.
pats I think
the AFC team for superbowl 2011 is green bay packers. NFC is Pittsburgh steelers
For the Super Bowl on February 3, 2008, Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots is the AFC Championship Coach.
Prior to the NFL/AFL merger, the first AFL (AFC) coach to win a Super Bowl was Weeb Ewbank, New York Jets in Super Bowl III. Post merger (1970 season and after), the first AFC coach to win a Super Bowl was Don McCafferty of the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V. Interestingly enough, The Colts had moved from the NFC to the AFC and the Cowboys from the AFC to the NFC in the AFL/NFL merger.
No team has ever played in the Super Bowl as an AFC team and NFC team, however ... The AFL-NFL merger took place prior to the 1970 season. At the time, there were 10 teams in the AFL and 16 teams in the NFL. To make an even number of teams in each new conference (AFC and NFC) three teams that played in the NFL and would have become NFC teams became members of the AFC. These teams were the Baltimore Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cleveland Browns. Four Super Bowls, then known as the AFL-NFL Championship Game, had been played prior to the merger. The Baltimore Colts represented the NFL in Super Bowl III and then in Super Bowl V, the first Super Bowl after the merger, they represented the AFC. So, the Baltimore Colts played in Super Bowls as an NFL team and an AFC team.
The role of home team alternates every season between the two conferences, AFC and NFC. In Super Bowl XLIV the AFC representative Indianapolis Colts were the home team. Super Bowl XLV is designated with the NFC as the home team, therefore making the Green Bay Packers the home team.
As of 2009, the last NFC team to win the Super Bowl is the New York Giants. They beat the AFC champions New England Patriots 17-14.
