The nature of the scandal was simple: members of the Chicago White Sox took money from gamblers and agreed to not play in this Series to the best of their ability. No surprise, the White Sox lost the Series.

Every player that either took money, or refused to report the taking of money, was banned from professional Baseball for life.

There were actually eight players accused of fixing the 1919 World Series: Eddie Cicotte, Oscar Felsch, Arnold Gandil, Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Charles Risberg, George Weaver and Claude Williams.
