∙ 12y agoAlthought the game against the USSR (Miracle on Ice) was not the gold medal game (different format in 1980), it is commonly referred to the gold medal game because it was the crucial game of the tournament. Truth is that if the US did not defeat Finland 2 days later, these group of college hockey players would be forgotten.
However, in that crucial game vs. the USSR Mike Eruzione scored the game winning gold for the United States.
