Following the 2011 season, the Steelers released Hines Ward and Aaron Smith. Both players retired in 2012.

Along with Ward and Smith, past players such as Kordell Stewart, Joey Porter, Willie Parker and Marvel Smith have all retired as Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012.
