Executive Director, Cleveland Clinic Sports HealthAnthony (Tony) Miniaci is in his sixth season as Head Team Physician with the Browns. He joined the Cleveland Clinic after serving as Head of the Sports Medicine Program and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Miniaci graduated from the University of Western Ontario Medical School in London, Ontario, Canada in 1982 and completed his residency and training in Orthopedics there in 1987. He received further training at the University Hospital in Berne, Switzerland, at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, and at the Alberta Heritage Research Center in Calgary, where he developed an interest and expertise in disorders of the shoulder and knee as well as articular cartilage problems. Miniaci has continued his clinical and basic science research work at the Cleveland Clinic where he leads an ever-expanding academic program in Sports Medicine. He is active in many Orthapaedic associations both nationally and internationally, has been very innovative in developing different surgical procedures and designing new minimally invasive implants for the treatment of Arthritis in young patients and has won numerous awards and honors. Miniaci is involved in the treatment of both professional and elite amateur athletes involved in a variety of sports in the United States, Canada and internationally. He has been a prime consultant for the National Hockey League Players Association for many years while in Toronto and continues to evaluate and operate on many players from the NHL at the Cleveland Clinic. Miniaci and his wife, Judy, have been married for over 25 years and the couple has three children who are all avid sports enthusiasts. Their eldest daughter, Sara Lyn, is entering her third year of medical school at Case Western Reserve University. Joseph is an accomplished downhill ski racer and is currently enrolled at the business program at the University at Western Ontario in London, Canada. Their youngest son, Anthony, who has also competed in downhill ski racing, has enrolled at Miami (Ohio) University. The family loves spending their winters skiing and their summers at their family cottage in Ontario water-skiing, golfing and relaxing.
