Gene Conley

Gene Conley was one of the most versatile professional athletes of all time, starring in both Major League Baseball and the NBA. In fact he is the only player in pro sports history to play for both a World Series champion (1957 Milwaukee Braves) and an NBA champion (1959-61 Boston Celtics)! He is also the only baseball player who ever won two MVP Awards in the minor leagues (Eastern League and American Association). Gene pitched in three major league baseball All-Star games and was the winning pitcher in the 1955 game. He won 91 games during his 11-year career in big league baseball. He also played 7 seasons in the NBA. Gene Conley is also the answer to a famous trivia question - Who is the only man to play for three major professional teams in the same city? Gene played for the Boston Braves, the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox! He became the most successful two major league sport's personality in American sports' history. Within a year and a half, he won world championships in both baseball and basketball and squeezed 13 straight seasons of both sports, in six and a half short years.
