Mickey Mantle of the New York Yankees. He hit his 500th HR in the 1967 season. Through the 2008 season, the only other switch hitter with 500+ HRs is Eddie Murray who got his 500th in the 1996 season. Of current players, Chipper Jones is the switch hitter with the most HRs at 408.

Babe Ruth was the first player to hit 500 home runs (08-11-1929) but one person could not be conssidered a club. On September 24, 1940 Jimmie Foxx hit his 500th home run, and created the 500 Home Run Club. The first two members of the 500 Home Run Club Ruth, and Foxx would be co-founders of the 500 home run club. Mel Ott joined the club on 08-01-1945. Today. there are 23 members of the 500 Home Run Club, and the number of members are growing fast.

Who is next player to hit 500 hr?

Probably Albert Pujols. As of games played on August 18, 2011 ... the active MLB leaders in home runs are Vladimir Guerrero and Chipper Jones who have 446 home runs and Albert Pujols who has 438 home runs. Vlad (36 years old) and Chipper (39 years old) are a little long in the tooth and have seen their better days. It is doubtful that either will reach 500. Albert is 31 years old and has several years left in his prime so, barring disaster, Albert will probably reach 500 home runs early in the 2013 season.
