They are very similar in that they have the same twisty chain-like structure. He wanted to isolate a specific type of RNA, precursor-RNA. That specific type would reveal a lot about how genetic code is read from a strand of DNA. He kept following leads in that area of interest and eventually it led to him discovering catalytic RNA. This discovery was important in the chemistry world because he had now proven that without enzymes RNA molecules could reorganize themselves. It will now effect the way researches think about how genetic information is transferred and how the body can protect itself from a viral attack.
