Tough question.
I doubt any one person can be blamed. Carl Marx had a great deal to do with the formation of the concept of communism. At the time the Russian people were fed up with the czars and communism was an appealing replacement for that form of government. I read that 85% of the people were peasants at the time so they wanted a form of government that would equalise the wealth. (Personally, I think it's the same desires that got Obama elected.) The Bolshevik party was the first party that really brought communism to a possision of power. Lenin started the Bolshevik party. To pin this down to one name is difficult but it's the kind of thing a teacher would do.
I think Lenin is your main man here.
Wikipedia has some answers and is probably more creditable than this site.
After the Bolshevik revolution communism really took off so I would look at its members.

Because it brought on Communism in Russia. Also China was influenced by Russia to be communist as well.
Communism didn't last in Russia because Stalin had a warped idea of communism. It failed because it never was true communism, but was always corrupted. I believe it was not communism in the USSR, but more of a deadly mix of Socialism and Totalitarianism.
Lenin led the Bolshevik Revolution, with Stalin his second in command.
Yes, Russia was the first to adopt Communism. The Soviet Union did not exist yet. Karl Marx invented the idea of communism in Germany though.
The Chinese Revolution first brought communism into the international order.
Lenin brought state capitalism to Russia, not Communism.

Vladimir Lenin and the Bolshevik Party brought "communism" to Russia in 1917 through the October Revolution. It should be noted that true communism was never instituted in Russia (or in any other country for that matter). The revolution brought a socialist state to Russia. The theory was that socialism would eventually evolve into communism generations later. It never did.
The Bolshevik Party under Vladimir Lenin brought "communism" to Russia, although it was not "communism", it was actually socialism. There has never been a country that has been "communist" in the sense that Karl Marx described communism.
Lenin brought communism by passing laws slowly into the community.
