∙ 11y agoMichael Phelps has won more Olympic medals than anyone in history. He has 22 medals overall, 18 of them being gold. The previous record holder was Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who had a total of 18 medals, 9 of them gold.
Phelps also has the most gold medals in history: 18. He is far ahead of the second place athletes. Second place is a four way tie for 9 golds among Latynina, American swimmer Mark Spitz, American track & field athlete Carl Lewis and Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi.
