∙ 14y agoJames "Cool Papa" Bell (Negro League) was said to have run the bases in 11-13 seconds. Some of his other fun facts include stealing two bases on one pitch. He stole 175 bases in one season. Scoring from second on a sacrifice fly. Scoring from second on a bunt. Scoring from first on a bunt. Satchel Paige one said of Bell, "Bell hit a line drive past my ears and when I turned around to see where the ball went Bell's struck ball struck Bell himself in his rear end as he slid into second base." Unfortunately at the time most of his stats are lost to history because keeping stats wasn't as important back then. The quote, "He could turn off the lights and get into bed before the room got dark" was spoken of Bell himself
I understand that both Mickey Mantle and Richie Ashburn were both clocked at 3.1 from home to first. I can't document this, but both were known to be very fast.
