∙ 13y agoIn 1988, in what has been called the greatest season in college football history, Sanders led the nation by averaging 7.6 yards per carry and over 200 yards per game, including rushing for over 300 yards in four games. He set College Football season records with 2,628 yards rushing, 3,249 total yards, 234 points, 39 touchdowns, of which 37 were rushing (also a record), 5 consecutive 200 yard games, scored at least 2 touchdowns in 11 consecutive games, and 9 times he scored at least 3 touchdowns. Sanders won the Heisman Trophy as the season's best player.

The great Dallas Cowboys running back broke the touchdowns record for a season with his 25th score in a 1995 Christmas game at Arizona. He is now fourth on the list. In 1999, Smith set the career rushing touchdowns record, breaking Marcus Allen's previous mark of 123. Smith ended his career after the 2004 season with a record 164 rushing touchdowns.
Steve Grogan holds the NFL record for rushing TDs by a quarterback in a season with 12 in 1976. He scored 35 rushing TDs in his career.
