The Yankees Franchise has also been known as The Baltimore Orioles (1901-1902), the New York Highlanders (1903-1912) and the New York Yankees (1913-2011) The Yankees were originally the Orioles, managed and owned by John McGraw. However, the Yankees were officially a Baseball team when Frank Farrell and Bill Devery bought the franchise for $18,000.00. In 1913, The Highlanders changed their name to the Yankees and in 1915, Jacob Ruppert and Tillinghast L'Hommedieu purchased the Yankees for $1,250,000.00 (0.05 of Alex Rodriguez's Salary).
