Alexander Obolensky who was born in Petrograd [St Petersburg] on 17 February 1916. His death occurred during training when his Hawker Hurricane crashed on Martlesham Heath in Suffolk [26 years old]. He made his debut for England at Twickenham in a match against New Zealand on 4th January 1936 scoring two tries. The Obolensky lecture, on Rugby, named in his honour, is presented annually.
