They baked cookies in frilly pink aprons. The people who weren't idiots probably did many of the same things that people still do today. However due to rationing, differences in available technology and the "blackout" many familiar hobbies could not take place. People grew their own fruit and vegetables (because of rationing) so gardening, working on allotments and making preserves were all useful and popular hobbies. People also kept chicken and rabbits as food sources too and many took more than a casual interest in angling. Many people made a virue out of necessity and took up hobbies such as dressmaking (refashioning old clothes into new). People also read books, kept pigeons, did jigsaws and listened to the radio among countless other things.
