Best Answer
  • The coach with the most wins overall is women's Basketball coach Pat Summitt with 913. All of these are with the Tennessee Lady Volunteers.
  • Bobby Knight of Texas Tech (& primarily, Indiana University) has the most wins in men's basketball with 902 career wins. He is now retired, and his son took over for him as Texas Tech's coach

If the question refers to any NCAA division:

  • Gene Bess of Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, three hours south of St. Louis, became the first College Basketball coach to win 1,000 games on Feb. 22, 2006. The 70-year-old Bess' 1,000-258 record is unmatched at any collegiate level.
  • Harry Statham at McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill., near St. Louis, is the winningest coach at any four-year college or university, compiling 912 wins in 40 years of coaching.
Two Different Versions of Winningest

Bob Knight(Ohio State,1962)

Army 1963-1969, Indiana 1970-2000, Texas Tech 2002-Present

902 Won 354 Lost .713 percent WINNINGEST BY PERCENTAGE:

Adolph Rupp (Kansas,1923)

Kentucky 1931-52, 1954-1972

876 Won 190 Lost .822 percent

John Wooden(Purdue,1932)

Indiana State 1947-1948, UCLA 1949-1975

664 Won 162 Lost .804 percent

The key to the question is NCAA wins. Summitt has over 1000 career wins, but 175 of those wins came under the aegis of the AIWA (pre-NCAA). Pat has approx. 850 NCAA wins and hasn't caught Bob Knight yet.
