There are many resources available to find information about the history of motor racing. Wikipedia, while content is mainly user-generated, would have a good deal of information. Offline options would be an encyclopedia that was published sometime in the last ten years.

It all depends on what kind of driving you want to do; be it auto-x, road racing, or drag racing. My opinion would be (if you can afford it) a K20 transplant. The reason i say this is because this would be a good all around motor. (Especially in a Civic Hatch :P)

no. just an exhaust wouldn't make it powerful enough to be a racing quad. there would be 450r's beating it. to make that a racing quad, which noone hardly does because they are so heavy, you would have to put all new a-arms and suspension on it. also you would have to add quite a few motor mods to make it more powerful
