Until 1992, the Summer and Winter Olympics were generally held in the same year, in a year divisible by 4 (i.e. 1924, 1968). Starting in 1994, the Winter Olympics have been held in the even-numbered years between the Summer Olympics years, so that there is an Olympics of some kind every two years.
