The Location of the oil filter depends on which engine you have in your CTS. the 3.2 engine the oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine to the left of the oil pan. It is not a screw on type filter it is a canister filter. You will have to unscrew the lid to gain access to the oil filter. On the 3.6 Engine the oil filter is also a canister filter but it is located on the top side of the engine. On the drivers side around the center of the engine cover. It will take a 15/16 socket to remove the lid.

"Where on a Cadillac srx 2005 is the oil filter located?"
There is not a 2.3. It is a 2.8. The oil filter is on the top drivers side about the middle of the engine. There is a "cover" with a hex bolt in the center to remove it. The cts is a very easy oil change.
You can't go wrong with the original equipment GM filter.

2009 Cadillac CTS Sedan - Rear Wheel Drive - 6.2 liter, 8 cylinder (Premium Gas) - Motor Oil Capacity: 6.0 Quarts with Oil Filter Change -
On the 2.8 and 3.6 liter engines the filter is located on top of the engine, next to the fill cap on the drivers side. The 6 liter engine filter is next to the oil pan on the passenger side.
Crescent wrench, funnel, pan & possibly an oil filter wrench if it's on there tight.
