Ice Hockey is probably most popular in Canada where the game originated and is a national pastime. The game is played in many countries, but , besides Canada, is also popular in the northern USA, in Sweden, Finland, Russia , Czech Republic, and a bunch of other European nations.

The entire country has a love and passion for hockey. From coast to coast and from the Arctic in the north to the US border to the south (and it even spills over into US cities near the border, such as Detroit, Buffalo, Minneapolis, etc). Most NHL players come from the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, but only because they are the most populated regions of the country. The countries NHL teams include the Montreal Canadiens (24 Stanley Cups - most in league), Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators and starting in 2011/2012 the Winnipeg Jets.

In Canada, hockey is religion. Even their 5 dollar bill has children playing hockey on it:)
