In Chinese Chess: *All pieces are placed where the lines meet, not in the squares. * The 5 soldiers are placed on the second line from the river, with a spacing in between every piece. * The 2 cannons are placed on the third line from the river, with each a space from the left and right of the board. * The 2 rooks are placed on the left and right corner at the bottom of the board. * The 2 horses are placed beside (left and right) the 2 rooks. * The 2 elephants are placed beside (left and right) the 2 horses. * The 2 guards are placed beside (left and right) the 2 elephants. * The general is placed in the middle of the 2 guards.

∙ 13y agoA pawn is allowed to only move one block forward but when attacking it may only move one block diagonal.
A castle or rook is allowed to move as many blocks as you want forward and sideways.
A knight is the only piece that can jump over other pieces. It can move three blocks, but only in a 'L' shape. E.g. 1 left/ right, 2 forward/ backward
A bishop may only move on its starting block colour and it can move as many blocks as you want, diagonal.
A Queen can move as many blocks as you want left, right, forward and backward.
A King can only move one block, but can move left, right, forward and backward. (except when you 'castle')

∙ 13y agoYou don't get chess pieces back. Once they are captured, they are gone for the game. However, if you promote a pawn by advancing it to the eighth row, it can become any piece you want, and that new piece occupies the same spot in the eighth row that the pawn did.
