Hotels bid for their business. Every visiting team is contacted with bids from various hotels outlining the services, security, and pricing bids each year when the new schedule is announced. They barter from there, but from my experiences, they have filled between 110 and 225 rooms, depending on the team. Certain teams are VERY concerned about security, while others aren't whatsoever. One year, three stayed at my hotel, but all of the visiting teams do not stay at the same hotel consistently Hope that helps!

MLB has a contract in every city with ONE hotel, paid for by the team & in KC it is NOT the Westin! You will find most of the players at the Intercontinental Hotel, there is a room for every player, but... If they want to pay for their own room at another hotel (like Derek Jeter did) they are welcome to do that. In that case (they stay elsewhere) their room at the IC remains Empty. Example, when I was working there (at the IC) all of the fans were wanting to see Albert Pujols, which was in vain, because he LIVES in KC during the off-season! He owns a house in KC & I believe that series was his only HOME series of that year for him? He stayed in his OWN home, drive his own car to the stadium at his own leisure - his hotel room at the IC Hotel stayed empty all weekend. And dont try to call the hotel & ask for a certain player, because they ALL travel under made up names & unless you know what name that is... unless you want to talk to Marty McFly or Luke Skywalker or Rock Harder -
