It started with.. really a bunch of kids racing each other on bikes. People started making events or BMX races and eventually made the sport BMX. Watch "Joe kid on a StingRay" it explains it really good.

∙ 13y agoI believe BMX started in America in the 20th century. Down to a few people finding a few bike parts and building a fairly flimsy bike, light enough to do stunts on. Bike tricks have always been around it's just up to the time people have had the materials in mass quantaties to develope such good BMX's.

∙ 12y agoBmxing started in Holland where children started playing similar bmx racing type games, (1950's). It was then made popular in the united states, callifornia, (1970s) where teenagers had a massive impact upon the sport, and bmxing as we know it kicked off from there.

the reason bmx started is that twenty or thirty years back, some kids were watching the motorcycle riders do tricks on the motorcycles. the kids wanted to immitate them and they did some tricks and modifyed their bikes and soon it exploded in poularity. and now bmx is what it is now.
