He was alledged to have played a game of English bowls on the green atop of Plymouth Hoe (Yes that is it's real name, no immature giggling before you start!) in Devon England prior to the Spanish Armada sailing up the channel.
Strangely enough there may actually be some truth in this legend since tide tables for the day the Spanish Armarda was spotted shows the tide against their progress. If Sir Frances Drake new this (Which is very likely) he would have known that there would be plenty of time before the Armada arrived.
