No, you are not allowed to move the cue ball anywhere on the pool table. According to the rules of the game, the cue ball must be played from a specific spot on the table. Generally, the cue ball will start from the "head string" (near the head of the table) and must be shot from a "frozen" position. It is also not allowed to touch or move the cue ball with any object other than the cue stick. If the cue ball is accidentally moved off the head string, it must be placed back on the head string before the next shot.

When a player knocks the cue ball into a pocket or off the table. It is called a scratch. The opposing player then can move the cue ball anywhere he/she wants using only half of the table. The ball can then be knocked into one of the balls only on the other side. You can't hit a ball on the same side as the cue ball after it is placed on the table following a scratch.

Some rules for 8-ball and 9-ball give you "ball in hand" if your opponent scratches or fouls, thus allowing you to place the cue ball anywhere on the table.

Are you required to make contact with the 8 ball after all your balls are sunk?

Under normal rules, you must contact the 8 ball in a legal shot as the first ball hit and any bal must contact a rail or the 8 ball must go in a pocket.

What would the reason be for a ball to pop up when it hits the rail?

The most common reason is extreme follow on the cue ball. The second reason is a problem with the cushion. It is also possible to get the cue ball to jump after one or 2 rails, but this is a difficult shot to make on purpose.

Where must the ball land in the final tie breaking shot in artistic pool?

A tie-breaker shot that has been used many times in artistic pool is the $100 bill shot. This requires that the player makes a minimum of an 8 rail bank shot and stop the cue ball in the center of a $100 bill. After the shot is made, the distance from the cue ball to target point is measured amd the closest player is the winner.

Can you bank on break in eight ball?

Yes. The 8 ball rules under both BCA and APA do not prohibit a bank shot. However, a good break shot in 8 ball will strike the rack with a high level of force and by striking a rail first reduces the speed and impact of the cue ball - so, it is not a good idea. Also, to be a legal break, APA rules require that the cue ball strike the first or second ball in the rack as the first balls struck, and that either a ball is pocketed or 4 numbered balls strike a rail.

What is billiards rebound?

There is no such thing as a billiards bounce. A person that does not know the proper terms might call a jump shot, a scoop shot, or a carom a "bounce" but this in incorrect. The term bounce is not a billiards term, but there are "tricks" where the word bounce can be used - one such is when racking, placing all the balls except the 8 ball in the rack, and then dropping the 8 ball on the rail to make it "bounce" into the center of the rack.

If you hit a bunker shot out of bounds can you rake before you hit your next shot?

When you play a shot from a bunker and hit it out of bounds, you clearly have to replay your shot. But the rules stipulate that the conditions of the previous shot must be recreated. So if you played from sand which was raked, you would rake the sand and place the ball as close to where the last shot was played from in the last shot. If you were in a footprint you would have to make a footprint and place your ball in it, and if you were in a divot, you would make a divot and place the ball in it.

Do you incur a penalty if an animal moves your ball during a golf game?

No, there is no penalty. What you do is replace the ball as close as possible to where it was before it was moved. If the animal runs away with the ball and you cannot get it you simply use another ball, but you must declare this to your playing partners.
