The Shankly Gates, which include the words "You'll Never Walk Alone", was added to the emblem in 1992. Although recorded by 'Gerry and the Pacemakers', the song was originally from the Broadway musical "Carousel".
"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. In the early 1960s it was covered by Gerry and The Pacemakers all of whom were Liverpudlians. The song caught on as it was played at the end of a game and thereafter the Kop started to sing it toward the end of each successive game as a statement that Liverpool FC would have their support always and "They would never Walk Alone"
