When Dr. Naismith invented Basketball he didn't arbitrarily decide that 10-feet was the height he wanted for the goal. That was the height of the bottom of the balcony at his gym so that is where he attached the peach baskets he used as the first goals.
this way there shooting abilities are tested. by being able to shoot that high gives the mind a different sense of height and power making it easier to shoot upon a smaller hoop because you have better judgment.
it is because most basketball players are over 6 feet tall and have long arms as well so if the rim were any lower it'd be extremely easy for players to make baskets.
