However, the first Super Bowl, and actually the first four Super Bowls, were not called the "Super Bowl" but rather the "AFL-NFL Championship Game". The name of the game was officially changed to "Super Bowl" in 1970 when the American Football League merged with the National Football League. The names of the four AFL-NFL Championship Games were redesignated to Super Bowl I through Super Bowl IV. The first game played where the name was officially the "Super Bowl" was Super Bowl V and it WAS played in Miami, Florida.
