A club option is when the club has the option to retain the player for one final year at a predetermined salary. So if a player has a 2 year deal with a club option, the club can keep him 2 or 3 years if they wish.

The player option is reversed. The player has the option to stay with the club an extra year or decline and become a free agent.

Can a football team sell a player that doesn't want to be sold?

Technically, No... because the player is well within his right to remain at the club and play out his contract, but usually, if a player is not any part of the Manager's plans, they will get sent out on loan until their contract expires... i.e. Aiaksandr Hleb at Barcelona.

How do you get into an academy?

Your son or daughter has to play at a reasonable level of football, for example a local youth football club, then develop there game and move up into the district/ county team. Then this is where professional clubs come in, they send scouts out to watch teams and if your child is lucky enough they will then go to that professional club for a trial and if they pass this trial they will be asked to sign a contract , if they are aged between 9 and 16 they will be signing a school boy contract and once they hit 16 the club will ask you to sign another contract to commit there future to the club.
