The 8 ball must be the first ball struck to be a legal shot in 8 ball. The 8 ball is allowed to carom or deflect off another ball afterwards, although some local rules, not tournament rules, require that this be called as part of the shot.

You both have the same pocket ...... but whomever, in this situation, can play the best safeties without leaving the oppontent a shot should win. The other side of the coin is to inject the rule of "3+ cushions", which would allow the shooter the option of his last pocket or having the cue ball contact 3 or more cushions into a different "called" pocket.

Are pool and billiards the same?

Billiards can be a generic term used to catagorize all cue sports. It is also the name of a specific game which is played with only 3 balls and on a table with no pockets. It is also the term used to describe the action of glancing, or carom, off a ball to make contact with another or to pocket a ball.

Where did billiards start?

Pocket billiards is generally agreed to have morphed from an outdoor game played on grass, with mallets very similar to croquet. It was moved indoors, and rails and pockets added as the game evolved. Perhaps the single most important revolution to the game was the addition of leather tips, which added a great deal of control to the "strike". One key point is that I have described pocket billiards, which is...billiards with pockets. Billiards refers to any game where one has balls that strike each other.

Are billiard balls different to snooker balls?

The correct answer is "maybe". The original game of billiards refers to English Billiards and this is nothing like pool. English billiards uses balls that are 52.5mm (2-1/16 inches) in diameter. The Carom Billiards games, such as Three Cushion, is also nothing like pool. Carom billiard games use balls that are 61.5mm (2-7/16 inches) in diameter. Both English and carom billiard ball sets use 3 balls: a white one, a red one, and another white one with a spot on it (sometimes substituted with a yellow ball). However, the term billiards today nearly always refers to the Pocket Billiards games, most likely 9 Ball or 8 Ball. These are also referred to as pool games and all use the same balls. These balls are 57.15mm (2-1/4 inches) in diameter. There are 15 numbered balls and a white cue ball in a typical set.

What do both soccer players and football players have in common?

They both enjoy getting hurt, and have to make sure the ball gets past or into the goal or line, so basically they both need to make sure the ball gets where they need it to be.

What is the difference between a billiard table and a pool table?

All three are different kinds of cue games: Billiards, Pool, and snooker. Billiard tables have larger pockets and use slightly larger balls than snooker. Other than that the tables are very similar in size and design. The smaller snooker balls are red, and yellow with white cue balls. They are not numbered like billiard balls and the game is entirely different than say 8 or 9 ball played in the USA. A billiard table can be converted to snooker because you can make the holes smaller to accommodate the snooker balls, but not vice-versa. In snooker you keep score and after all the balls are potted it is the one with the highest score that wins. 147 is the maximum score but theoretically 155 is possible. With billiards an infinite score is theoretically possible. In pool it is ho pots all their balls and the black first that wins.
